30 Seconds To Mars, Bristol

I was at the Bristol show....the most incredible night of my life!!
I got there around 11am, and it was so cold :[ BUT I met Shannon and he signed my ticket. My friend has the photo of us two with him, so I need to get if off her. We saw Tomo and Tim wandering about too, and Jared (looking shy and ill) walked past and through the side door into the venue.
I have to say that the queue for this gig was the friendliest I've ever been in. I chatted to everyone, virtually. (I also befriended a Polish girl who was extremely obsessed & hysterical).
We were let in just after 7pm, but had to wait over an hour for the actual show to start. The support was LostAlone, and they were bloody fantastic. By the end of the first show they'd gone from support to headline!
Whilst setting up the stage for 30, there was a huge white curtain obscuring the entire stage from view. BUT when it was time to start, there were red lights from behind the curtain, the occasional strobe, and then the music from "Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi" started playing. We started screaming, seeing silhouettes of microphone stands, drums, and the odd shadow of a person. As it got to the climax, the band kicked into into a euphoric version of Battle Of One, and the curtain fell. As you can guess, everyone screamed/cheered biggrin.gif

What can I say? Jared may have been ill, but you would not have guessed it from his incredible performance! He literally seemed to sing his heart out, screaming into the mic, running around stage with a mad glint in his eye. The thrust the microphone into the air, and there were times when the crowd was louder than the music. The band sure as hell didnt' seem to be expecting that! Bristol Academy may be the "smallest venue on the tour", but probably put the rest to shame!
"Be honest, how many of you have our first CD?" was met with deafening cheers. Jared's reply was a shocked "you're a bunch of hardcore motherf*ckers"
Too right, my friend.
Tim was quite subdued for most of the gig, occasionally coming forward. I dunno, maybe it's because he's a touring member, or maybe he doesn't want to rain on Jared's parade biggrin.gif Tomo soon got into the swing of things, however, running around, balancing on the edge of the stage and playing pitch-perfectly! It's strange, though, how this band has no physical contact with the crowd whatsoever, and yet you feel so close to them. At one point, Jared came and stood infront of the bit I was in, arms oustretched. We all reached out and my had was a breathe away from his, and you can still somehow feel his energy, like an aura. Not every frontman can do that. We had the crowd completely under his control. A cult, in every [positive] sense of the word.

His acoustic 'Capricorn' was beautiful - I have a video of it, but unfortunately you can hear the horribly off-key singing of the girls next to and behind me :[ He then went into The Story, which ended in laughter before he started singing biggrin.gif And then, his final solo song was 'A Modern Myth' which, I admit, had me crying. That was so beautiful :]

The Kill, FY, Attack, ABL ("For everyone who wants to do something different with their lives") - each song had us in a frenzy. It was like we were all in whole different dimension to anyone outside of these walls. They played Hunter, which I would never have expected, and it was awesome! "Let's turn this into a rave!" By our lord's command, we all went weird, imitating everything that he did onstage.

The show finished with Jared getting us to chant "Do you live/die/bleed" over and over before shortening it just "live/die/bleed" holding the mic over us, then going to Tomo and back again. You guessed it, The Fantasy was the grand finale of everyone's dreams.

After the show I waited, with what seemed like the entire crowd, outside to meet the band. The show finished at 22:40, which was a bit early, but I thought it had been later than that before I checked my phone, so I didn't really mind. At about 23:10-ish, Jared made an appearance and we followed eagerly down to the tourbuses. Tomo was there for a few moments too, but he then disappeared. We had an informal Q&A/chat with him. Someone people started to shout his name and he was like "Settle down class, or I'll have to put you in detention" which was great biggrin.gif Nice to know that this guy does actually have a sense of humour. He's softly spoken, surprisingly modest, and is so appreciative of his fans; i.e the loveliest frontman there could be. A Latvian lady gave him a box which had chocolates, and book will the photos of all of the Latvian 30STM fans, which was incredible. Anyways, Jared told us that he had a great time and was really impressed with us/the crowd and they were absolutely adamant that they'd come back to Bristol. They're also going to be working on their third album this year *WOOHOO* but aren't setting themselves a deadline. I had to run at 23:30 because I had to catch the last bus home! So I don't know what happened next.

For me, it was the most incredible experience of my life. And to top it off, I got Shannon's autograph, met Shannon and Jared, and got a drumstick and one of Jared's plecs. Next time I see them, I'm determined to get something from Tomo and Tim (if he's still there)

Fangirl moment (because I'm allowed): SQUEEE! When I handed Jared something after the show, he touched my hand! *faints* </ fangirl >

HEATH LEDGER FOUND DEAD

Holy shit. My father called me in to read a news story on teletext...it just doesn't seem real. I asked him three times whether it was a joke/fake. I didn't believe it.

Heath Ledger was found dead at 8:30pm GMT today, from a drugs overdose...suicide. He leaves behind a two year old daughter.

This is just...surreal. So weird. I know that I shouldn't probably be so affected by a celebrity's death, but this is me. I form strange connections to people. And so, as with Casey Calvert's death in november, I'm doing my very best not to cry. I mean, he was such an incredible and soulful actor, and I've seen virtually all of his movies.

It just doesn't seem possible. I'm not sure I fully believe it

RIP Heath

The housekeeper let in a massaeuse who tried to wake Ledger, and found him unresponsive at 3:20 p.m. The massaeuse then noticed sleeping pills strewn around his room and called paramedics at 3:26 p.m.
The father of one was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m (8:35pm GMT)

I Am A Passenger

So...let's see....well, IT SNOWED!

Yes, ladies and gents. We, the public of Bristol, England, actually had  the white stuff falling from the sky! SNOW IN BLIGHTY...i think that should be a worldwide headline :]

Naturally, I went out to take photos (which are up now). C'mon, I'm not gonna pass up an opportunity like that! Haha it was fun, shame that it turned to slush though :[

The end of January is getting closer and closer...which means the Kerrang! tour (Circa Survive, Fightstar, Madina Lake, Coheed & Cambria)...and 30 SECONDS TO MARS. Oh hell yess :] I just want to know who's supporting them *confused face*

Oh, and in April I'm going to Japan for two weeks....TWO WEEKS! I mean, it doesn't get much better than this :]
AND I'm doing a bit of modelling for some people too, just because. And once I turn eighteen I'm getting my tattoos done and applying for Suicide Girls :D

S'all for now,

xoxo

Casey Calvert

I am in a state of absolute shock. When I read the title 'Casey Calvert, guitarist for Hawthorne Heights, dies in sleep', I had to re-read it several times before it sank in.
This is the official statement from the band, posted on the Hawthorne Heights website:

Today is probably the worst day ever. Its with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We've spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible. At this time we're not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don't contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don't want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know.

Sincerely,

Hawthorne Heights

Eron, JT, Micah and Matt

Kerrang!: Calvert was found  mere hours before the band was due to perform at the 9:30 Club on Saturday night.Althought an official cause of death is still to be determined, early reports suggest that Calvert died from an allergic reaction to the combination of sleeping pills and anti-depressants he was taking.

R.I.P Casey Calvert. He was only 26 years old, and far too young, by any standards, to die. Here are some of the comments made on both the Kerrang website and here on Buzznet:

Truely gutted at hearing this news! I was a fan of the band for many years and so glad i got to see them do there thing live! RIP Casey, gone but not forgotten!x - Chris, kerrang.com

R.I.P you were a ledgend[sic] xxxxxx - Jason, kerrang.com

OMG! That is such a shock. RIP Casey. It is always sad to hear that someone you respect has died, but this seems so wrong. He was so young and had loads to give still. It is a sad loss of a great talent. - Sarah, kerrang.com

:( Rest In Peace, Casey. You will be missed. - Crash13, buzznet.com

RIP Casey Calvert. Our hearts are with you always. - Girlwitaroseinhernee, buzznet.com

This was so sad to hear about :( RIP Casey you are loved xoxox - danielledaniprat, buzznet.com

This the worst news I have heard in a long time... Casey was an incredible person and amazingly talented musician, may the memories of him and his music live on forever.... R.I.P Casey Calvert - Ryan Weber, buzznet.com

Go onto the Hawthorne Heights forum.

People have been writing about times when they met HH, and Casey in particular, and have left some very moving comments.

Kanye West and Pete Doherty

So as y'all might have heard already from Breesay's blog, Kanye West's mother, Dr Donda West, passed away...allegedly from complications from the surgery she'd had the day before.

Now, the surgeon was a certain Jan Adams...and he seems to be quite the pr*ck. Allow me to explain: He is in trouble with the Medical Board of California over several DUI cases AND has had judgments against him in at least two malpractice cases.
ALSO
  •  multiple convictions for alcohol-related offenses
  • charges of unprofessional conduct and abuse of alcohol
  • Adams has settled at least two malpractice suits, one for $250,000 and another for $217,000!!
source

seriously...would you trust a guy that looks like this?

OKAY! Onto Pete Doherty, our favourite junkie!
So at the time of the MTV European Music Awards, ol' Petey-boy was supposed to be squeaky clean and sober.

Yeah right.

A video sprung up of, allegedly,  Pete shooting up heroin backstage. C'mon...did you really think he'd get clean this easily?? source
But I was listening to Radio 1 this morning - Chris Moyles show with Russell Brand as a guest - and they seemed to make a point. "If Pete and Donny [Tourette] were hanging off a ledge, and I could only save one-" "-well, Pete of course-" "-Exactly"

They also called Pete a "bright and talented young man". And to be honest, I have to a agree. He's the world's favourite car-crash. He might not have the best voice in the world, but he's acheived fame and cult and star status. His music is brilliant. And his performances sure-as-hell are charged! Just don't ask with what! And I'm not trying to blaspheme here, but perhaps he is rather like the modern day Kurt Cobain.
HALT
This is where all you kids start going "OMG how DARE she compare Pete to our beloved Kurt???". Puh-lease. I'm a huge Kurt and Nirvana fan. Have been for years. But I'm just making an observation. I don't mean it to the fullest extent, but you must admit...there are similarities!!

anyway, that's all for now! Keep on truckin' folks!

Update + Rant

Been uploading pics, and updating what groups they go into. All the time. 24/7.
Yes, I have no life.

I just read this and it made me feel sick. Click on the links. I'm currently looking at the MassResistance's so-called successes. It's disgusting:
  • Successfully pressured Gov. Romney to veto funding of homosexual programs in schools put in FY 2007 state budget, through national grassroots action. (July 2006)
  • Exposed "Youth Pride" and BAGLY "trans" Prom, and Boston Pride events including children, partly funded with taxpayer money. (2005, 2006)
how the F*CK can you call these successes??
No I am not gay, I'm bisexual, and I have friends who are gay. So this hits home. And strikes a bloody nerve.

I've signed the MillionForMarriage petition. I'm part of iSupport. I'm off to Gay Pride next year. I've been raised a Catholic, but I still am the way I am. I've yelled at my parents many times for making gay jibes and comments which I find unacceptable. And I think next on my list is to get rid of MassResistance.

Interview with Rob Dobi

As part of my A2 Photography personal study, I had to get some first-hand research. So I interviewed artist and photographer Rob Dobi, who has worked freelance, and also with bands such as Atreyu, Coheed & Cambria and Fall Out Boy.

Rob Dobi began drawing as a hobby at the age of four, and at age sixteen, in his sophomore year  he started to work in digital mediums, before attending the Rhode Island School of Design between 1999 and 2003, where he gained a Bachelor’s Degree in illustration. Using Photoshop and Illustrator as his tools of the graphic world, Dobi has worked with various musicians such as Atreyu, Fall Out Boy, Less Than Jake and Coheed & Cambria. He designed clothing, stage backdrops, CD artwork and tour posters. “I hate working with musicians and bands nowadays, I really don't do it anymore.” Dobi said, to my surprise. “I would much rather be out exploring old buildings and piecing together history.” I try to push the matter further. Working with bands can’t be that bad, right? Is there any chance of you working with musicians again? “Rright now i only do work with bands if a) I really enjoy the band or if they've been kind to me in the past or b) if the money is good!” Well I guess that settles that, then. But then again, judging by his latest work, I should have figured that out. However, although he might not be making clothing for bands, he has been creating his own line of t-shirts called ‘Fullbleed’. His work is easily recognisable; each image focuses around a person doing something very odd. ‘In Full Swing’, for example, shows three people swinging on clouds. His work is iconic, but he has “plenty of influences: Norman Rockwell, Guy Billout, Arthur Adams [and] Mike Mignola”

Yes that list is full of artists, not photographers, another non-surprise then, that he is an “illustrator who just happens to dabble in other stuff like graphic design and photography”.

Just look at his work entitled ‘New England Ruins’ and I think you’ll be in for a shock. Dobi must be extremely modest to say that he ‘dabbles’ in photography. Without hesitation I can easily say that his work is not that of an amateur and not of someone who simply dabbles. The photographers he admires are “just a few friends” who remain unnamed, but I’ll work on that later, and he tells me that when it comes down to photography “I don’t really have any influences…I don’t really study the subject”

Dobi has a strange childish curiosity in him, which he has never outgrown. In seventh grade, on summer camp, he would always break away from his group in order to go exploring. Today, he wanders around trying to find abandoned buildings in which to take photographs, often getting him into rather tight spots. So…any trouble with security or the police? “I’ve had a few run-ins with security, gotten a few trespassing fines, but nothing bad considering how much I’ve been doing this stuff!” He says, somewhere between modesty and that feeling you get when you’ve successfully outwitted someone. Okay, but what about injuries? “I’ve stepped on a few rusty nails…aggravated a torn ACL-” that’s an Anterior Cruciate Ligament, by the way, a major ligament in the knee. And how did he manage it? - “That happened while jumping off a roof.”

So here’s what I’ve managed to decipher about the man that is Rob Dobi: He is an illustrator. Who dabbles in graphic design. And photography. Dabbles. He’s nearly killed himself a couple of times because the staircases he climbed, well, weren’t up to the challenge. He loves to cruise around in search of another building to explore, the more decayed the better, and seems to have a morbid curiosity for abandoned buildings, apparently with hospitals and institutions as his site of choice. But his thoughts can’t be going un-influenced, can they? You admire your friends’ work…just give me a name? “Justin Oliver. He takes fantastic photographs.” I checked out his website, and I smacked myself on the head. Their work is scarily similar. And it’s a definite case of ‘the chicken or the egg’ with these two.

And despite the close calls with security guards, and even death, it seems that hunting down abandoned prisons and hospitals to showcase their hidden beauty is his true passion. So although his main income is from his art, if he could survive on photography alone, then he would. And his final comment proves this. Commissions: anything you’d love to be asked to do? “Not really. I kinda do this for myself, not for anyone else.”

BUZZMOB ALBUM REVIEW

- Album Title: I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love
- Artist: My Chemical Romance
- Album Review : The first My Chemical Romance album. It’s strange listening to it now, as the contrast between this and their latest album, The Black Parade, are so bleedin’ stark. But I still feel this is true MCR. The lyrics themselves seem to show the transgression between the more hardcore music and the more emotional lyrics of their future songs. This album seems to have picked up quite a cult following, with favoured songs seeming to be Headfirst For Halos and Vampires Will Never Hurt You. Containing the first official My Chemical Romance song, Skylines And Turnstiles, this album is a force to be reckoned with. It is the embodiment of a combination of raw guitars and vocals,  and beautiful melodies. The lyrics and riffs playing together with ease. Sometimes I wish that this had been their only album, just to preserve its brilliance
- Score: 8.5
- Favorite Song(s): This Is The Best Day Ever, Early Sunsets  Over Monroeville
-What did you like about it: The subtle darkness, the lyrics, the tunes
-What didn't you like about it: It’s production is sometimes too rough for my liking
- Other Albums you would compare it too: A cross between ‘The Curse’ {Atreyu) and  ‘Evening Out With Your Girlfriend’ (Fall Out Boy’)

YESS

I am so freaking happy!
30 Seconds To Mars are coming to Bristol at the end of January...I have bee waiting so long for this moment!! And you bet your asses that I will buy my ticket 9am on the 5th!! F*CK YEA!!
Jared, you'd better watch out :P I'm apparently a very good stalker...in fact, my dear friend John has said I could make a good Ninja XD oh yes

I am way too obsessed with High School Musical, I swear to God. I've watch the (first) movie f*ck knows how many times. I have both soundtracks. I have posters, the HSM magazine, and other magazines that have interviews with Vanessa, and the very dishy Zac :P yummy. My friends and parents are starting to think I have a slight problem.

And on the note of problems, got the councellors on Thursday. I have to explain to her that I had some weed, and had a minor schizo-episode (again) and nearly drank alcohol. In other words, my head's a mess. And I should really turn up for college before they seriously kick me out.
But I just don't have any motivation. I want to be a singer and a designer and a poet. I don't really want to be a journalist stuck in an office. I don't want to go to class to get a job I don't actually want. I want to live the life I want, but I don't think it'll ever be possible.

And you ask me why I've made three suicide attempts in just over a year.

So I'll leave you on that happy note

xoxo
